Eden Bodyworks: Coconut Shea product line review

My hair is in a state of shock. I got my hair bleached. Yes. I paid hundreds of dollars at a professional natural hair salon to get my hair professionally colored by a professional and my hair came out like shit. I should have known better. When I walked in to the salon and told the stylist what I wanted it was VERY hesitant, almost like he had never heard of such a request. I especially should have known when the stylist and I went to the beauty supply across the street and the beauticians working there kept questioning me, acting like I didn't know what I was saying. They were completely perplexed that I would want my hair bleached. They warned me what it would do to my hair. I didn't care, I told them "It's just hair...."

I guess part of this was due to my own ignorance, but still...the stylist was still pretty shitty. He bleached my hair. It was not the color I wanted, but I was so tired, I just wanted to go home. When he detangled my hair...it was in BALLS all over the floor. He was so rough, and blamed it on me not using  a comb to my hair because I rather finger comb instead. My hair was left in shambles. I did not like the color. It was dry. and it was breaking of. bad!

This was months ago. Since my hair was parched I decided to just go ahead and buy some hair products to perhaps save it a little bit from complete destruction. After I cut off the damaged hair, I tested out these products, and let me tell you I am NOT big on buying hair products. I believe that shea butter works miracles, but that was before my hair got ratchet.

Sally's was having a sale. Buy 2 Get 1 Free. I noticed the eden bodyworks coconut shea products on the shelf and they peaked my interest for a few reasons. 1) I like coconut. I like how it smells. 2) I know coconut has the power to penetrate my hair shaft and provide maximum moisture. 3) They were a kinda-newish products. I like to try new things. 4) They were cheap. On sale. and 5) The beauty consultant, who I've known for years gave these products the thumbs up.

So yeah, I bought them! Her's my honest review of these products~

The coconut she aline comes with more than just these 3 products. I'm sure there's and I personally didn't buy the other products because I had no use for them. You can visit their website to check out entire line.

The packaging is pretty solid. I like that I can see what I'm getting.

The Cleansing Co-Wash

The cleansing condition smelled lovely. Very strong coconut scent! I didn't like how this product was packed in a jar though. A jar! Conditioner! IN. A. JAR! That means that I have to manually dig my hands and grab a scoop with my fingers while I'm in the shower. Ugh. Somebody please tell the Eden Works folks that this is not a proper packaging design for a conditioner.

The label advertises the words 'sulfate free', Ummmm? That's great. What natural likes sulfates? None. BUT, when talking about sulfates, no one looks for them in conditioners, because most conditioners don't even contain sulfates in the first place. So...to me, they're just trying to use buzz words. Gimmicky if you ask me.

Anyways, let me stop being so picky and review the actual product. The cowash felt legit, like a conditioner should feel. After washing my hair, I did not get the results I wanted. My hair felt okay. I did not notice it being an cleaner or any more moisturized. I would not buy this product again. I feel like I'm better off using a regular conditioner for my co-washes.

The Souffle

I was told the souffle doubled as a good moisturizer. That;s why I bought it, for my dry hair. The souffle has the same strong coconut scent as the cowash. It is very fluffy, light and airy. The souffle doe snot build up, leaves my hair feeling great and it does not leave behind any residue despite it's creamy texture. MY hair absorbs it right up, and is lasting. I would recommend this to not just naturals, but any one with dry hair of any texture.

The Leave-in

Leave in conditioners are a great idea. They do all of the work of a conditioner, but you don't have to wash them out. Perfect for a busy lazy girl like me. I can not give you a valid opinion about this leave in. I've only used it after washing my hair, and then applying additional products. I suspect this product would be good for ladies who do wash-n-go's but I am not the one for that. It smells nice, but it could easily be a hit or miss. You'd have to research or try this product out yourself and form your own opinion. And that's all. I probably won't be reviewing any other hair products for a long time. These will last me for a atleast a year!

Natural Hair Product Review: Cantu Shea Butter Leave in Conditioner

Many natural swear by this product. I did too at first, until it totally ruined my hair!

What I say:  Mmkay, so you're probably wondering about my contradicting short review. Let me explain. When you first put this product in your hair, you'll be amazed! It smells nice, make your hair shine, makes it soft, it's a dream in a jar. Until you begin to wonder why your hair feels like a brillo pad a couple days later.

I'll tell you why!

This product hosts a nasty silicone.

Trimethylsilylamodimethicone acts as a band-aid. It is a villain in disguise. It tricks you into thinking that you have lush, flawless hair, when really it's hurting it more than doing any good. Silicones seal the cuticle of your hair shaft and prevent moisture from entering. This is what makes your hair dry later on. Dryness = Breakage. It also can not be paired with other hair products. Silicones are so heavy that they can only be removed with clarifying shampoos. Layering products on top of them will only cause build up and an unhealthy scalp.

ALSO! There is not a product in the world that will mend your split ends. If you have split ends, you need to cut them ASAP, or they will continue to become worse. 

AND there is not a product in the world that will protect your hair from a 150 degree flat iron.

So don't be fooled~
How to use:

• Daily Styling – Apply to towel dried hair.  Work a generous amount of product into hair beginning at the roots to the tips.  Comb through for even distribution.  Do not rinse.  Apply more to longer hair at the ends or problem areas.
• Leave In Treatment – Apply as directed for “Daily Styling” just after shampooing.  Re-apply and cover with a plastic cap overnight for maximum absorbtion and intensive conditioning.
• Frizz Free Hair – Apply daily to split ends or damaged areas.  Comb through and let dry naturally.

Natural Hair Product Review: African Pride Olive Miracle Growth Oil

As a natural haired girl, you can never have enough oil!

Seal in that moisture ladies! That is rule # 1!

Short Review

What I say:  I like this oil. :) It's really thick so it stays in your hair and is sure to seal in your moisturizer. I love how there are multiple oils, each oil has it's own benefits. So that's a check plus-plus. I like to use this in my hair while I'm taking down my twist outs so my hair won't frizz up. 

How to use: Apply to wet or dry hair.

For hot oil treatment:

 apply to wet hair

then wrap hair with a shower cap

sit under dryer for 20 minutes

and wash out!

Natural Hair Product Review: Curls - Curl Creme Brule

Ecxuse the layout, I'm in the process of customizing it. :) I'm currently taking new pictures so my pretty lil' face can be on the banner. But you see, I want to showcase my natural hair AND my circle lenses (I don't have many pictures with the two. BUT, I'm taking a break from circle lenses for a month--maybe two. Ho hum, We'll see how my eyes react to my new incoming pair

Good news though. New product review!

Short Review:

Pros

What I say: Eh. It's an okay natural hair product. I notice no curl defining, or de-frizzing, it's just a thick moisturizer that smell like candy. It doesn't really even moisturize to well either. So, I found a new use for it! Instead of using gel for my edges, I use this instead!  But all in all, not worth the money, which is disappointing because the spray variation worked so well. :'(r.

This miracle in a bottle is called Hawaiin Silky, it has honestly been my staple product since I started this journey. I don't know why I did review it sooner.

Eco Styler Olive Oil Styling Gel Review

Woo. Long time, No post. I'm staarting back up with a few product reviews.

Starting with this new gel I bought. Shall we?

If you're a natural, like I am, you know that you have to use a lot of special products that are specifically made for your mane. I've been on quite a few Natural Hair Care Forums, and the ladies there have been simply raving about this stuff. Well. Here's my review. :)

Short Review:

Pros:

What I say: I'm indifferent about this gel. I like it, you know, it holds my hair in place, and doesss have olive oil in it, and it also dose not flake. But this will leave your hair feeling super hard, which is the opposite of what I strive for. I've heard of girls who slap this over every single strand! 

And I'm just like...how? O_o Like, how do you put up with the stiffness?! So, I'm up here thinking. Well, maybe they have the soft hold. So, I searched around, only to find that a soft hold doesn't exists! They have 10 max hold, and 10 max hold only!

How to use: Apply as desired.

Natural Hair Product Review: One 'N Only Argan Oil - Oil Treatment

What they say: Instant Shine, Smoothness, Frizz Control, Color Protection and Alcohol Free! Argan Oil is a non-greasy, alcohol free formula that is absorbed instantly into the hair, creating a brilliant shine without leaving any oily residue. Smooths the cuticle for silky, conditioned and healthy looking hair. Helps protect against damage caused by chemicals, excessive heat, from styling and environmental factors. Eliminates Frizz.

What I say: A nice oil that you can use to seal in moisturizers. Not the best tho. although it smells nice, it doesn't work as well as other oils that I have purchased. The Proclaim 7 Argan Oil leaves my hair shiner and softer for much longer, it even makes my hair feel a tad bit conditioned too. But this oil, only lasts about a third as long,  doesn't make my hair shine, and barely makes it soft.  I'm am a bit disappointed, the shampoo and conditioner and mask from this series worked so well, the oil just doesn't compare to them.

How to use: Rub into hair after you have applied moisturizer, or apply to wet hair.

Natural Hair Product Reiew: One 'N Only Argan Oil Series

Funny Story:

I went into a regular beauty supply shop. Sally's to be exact, and I was in the shampoo section. I saw some products that caught my eye. My sister was on the other side of the store so I yelled out, "HEY LOOK! THESE SHAMPOOS DON'T HAVE SULFATES!"

Then all of a sudden, ot of nowhere, ths lady appears behind me and smuggles these three little bottles into my hands, she spoke in a really low voice, "Here, these are for you, they're all natural, try them so next time you come, you know what to look for." And then she was gone. Here they are:

What they say: Sulfate, phospahte and paraben free! Restores moisture, repairs damaged hair, Color protection!

What I say: Heaven in a bottle! You know how I'm always complaining that my hair is painfull dry after I was it. I felt a difference this time around. There were no sulfates to strip the moisture away. My hair actually felt kind of soft for once! I'm just hoping now that the full size version won't be expensive.

How to use: Rub into your hair and Rinse for the most part. None of these are leave-ins.

Natural Hair Product Review: Suave Professionals Almond & Shea Butter Conditioner

What it is: Just a simple conditioner

What they say: "SALON-QUALITY. Shampoo and Conditioner System proven to moisutrize your hair as well as Aveda Dry Remedy shampoo and conditioner. This moisturizing conditioner is infused with 100% almond and shea butter, wich are known for their rich emoillments. It replenishes lost moisture leaving your hair well nourished & beautiful".

What I say: Well, for one, this crap dosen't moisturize at all! I did a deep condition and still, my hair was dry afterwards.

How to use: Use as a co-wash, or apply after shampoo. Leave in your hair for 5-10 minutes, or sit under a dryer for 15 minutes. Proceed to wash out.

I have a love-hate realationship with washing my hair!

You see, I love the clean squeaky feeling, and the fact that I'm getting rid of all that product build up.

But I HATE HATE HATE how it feels after I dry it.

 It feels like steel wool, it's so matted and dry! I understand this is because I have just now stripped my hair of all of it's natural oils, but still. My hair is unbearable for a day or two. All my curls seem to magically dissapear, only then will they re-appear after a couple days and a few pumps of moisturizer.

I never understood how some girls could just wash and go. 

I can never find a conditioner that actually conditions!

Untill I find one that does, I will now only be washing my hair every 2weeks instead of every week, and we'll see how that goes.

Here's my hair. All lifeless and dull. :'(

Natural Hair Product Review: Shea Moisture Organic Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie

What it is: A thick organic, moisturizer, made especially for natural hair

What they say: Nutrient Rich vegtable butters condition hair, restoring moisture and shine.

What I say: I thought this was a moisturizer. I was wrong. I cant really say it's a curl enhancer either. But it does some what clump up my hair? Idk. I dont really know why, but I like it, even though it dosen't really benefit my hair.

How to use: Just slap it on your hair and rub in. Be sure to rub in well, missing a few spots could lead to a white reside since it's so thick. 

My hair look like a wooly rug!  Does it look curly to you?!

Natural Hair Product Review: Lavish Curls Moisturizer

What it is: A liquid moisturizer in a spray bottle

what they say: "The product EVERY curly girls needs...a daily moisturizer to refresh, rehydrate, and reactivate her dry curls after a long night's rest..without shampooing! Lavish curls moisturizer will give back life to dry and lifeless curls in a snap! Use daily for best results.

what i say: Works pretty well. Makes my hair touchable atleast. I noticed that after a few nights of using this, my hair was really soft in the morning.

I love all the organic ingredients, and that it dosent include any of those harsh ones us naturals hate. As far as curls go, you're better off buying an oil or something. I'd use this strictly to keep my hair form becoming dry.

What it is: A leave in conditioning cream

What i say: A very heavy leave in condiitoner with a funky smell, dosen't condition well. It always leaves a white residue in your hair, well, on mine atleast, and I dont like to use it unless I neccasarily have to.

How to use: While hair is damp or wet, glomp a generous amount on to your hair and massage in thoroughly.

Natural Hair Product Review: Proclaim Argan Oil

Purchased from: Sally's Beauty Supply

Cost: $4.99

Size: 3Oz

Endurability: 8/10 - I'll give this oil it's props, if you manage can manage to keep your hands out of your hair, then it should last you atleast half a day.

Conditioning: 10/10 - So I hear Argan oil is one of the best oils out there. It makes your hear incredibly soft, perfect for sealing in your moisturizer!

Appearence on Hair/Curl Definition: 17/10 - Makes your hair moderately glossy, and makes your curls spring up. It's lovely.

Overall: This is a great oil to use for you natural haired gals, but I must say it's not the best oil I've used. It's really expensive for such a small bottle. For a cheaper price, and wayyy bigger bottle, I would just buy a bottle of Glycerin. But I guess you pay for the quality. Works great, the cost is great too.

 Overview:

This is one bombass product. It conditions and clean all in one. So all you "no-poo"ers, this would be perfect for your regimin. I'm actually thinking of trying it for that use myself.

    Back on topic, even though there's only a handful of this goo in the package, it's very effective. You can feel it working! Literally. I mean like, as soon as you start applying it, it gives your scalp this invigorating, minty sensation.

And because this contains olive oil, it deep conditions. The product it's self isn't watery, it's actually extremely thick, wich is also a plus. Love this stuff. Will be buying again very soon.



Natural Hair Product Review: Hairfinity and 7 weeks after BC (Big Chop)

You can get these babies at http://www.hairfinity.com/ for just a measly 25 bucks for a months supply.

They come with 60 pills, and shoudl last you about a month if you take the reccomended 2 pills a day!

I began using these the 2nd week after my Big Chop and ended the 6th week. Here is my progress:

            1 week after BC                                                                      7 Weeks after BC

At first, I didnt think the pills were working. But seeing these photos, they definately did their job. People had lept saying 'oh, you're hair is growing', but I just didnt see it.

Dosen't my hair look more fuller and, erm, poofier?! LOL. :)

This is a great product, has all the vitamins and things your hair needs, and at a reasonable price too.



Natural Hair Product Review: Tea Tree Oil

Purchased from: CVS

Cost: $2.99

Size: 2Oz

Endurability: 9/10 - This oil was very long lasting! If you rubbed my hair 8 hours later, traces of the oil would be on your hand.

Conditioning: 10/10 - Because it containted Aloe Vera, this product made my hair very soft to the touch, practically until you re-applied it.

Appearence on Hair/Curl Definition: 5/10 - This oil really made my curls pop, but not for long. It's be shiny for about the first our, then wear away, leaving my hair looking dull and dry, when really it wasnt. I supposed because this oil is really light and watery.

Overall: This product was great! and I do reccomend it for natural haired gals. It softens your hait with out making it look greasy. It smelled great as well, almost minty like. It didnt add to any product build up. The only think I really hate about it is the size.
